In its second year of production, the wildly successful Houston Astros "Pets and Players" Calendar is now available! The calendars are printed in limited numbers and are proving to be a collector's item!

The Astros "Pets and Players" calendar is the result of collaboration between Saving Animals and the Astros in Action Foundation to help animals and people in the community. The concept is simple: The Astros' players team up with Saving Animals and pose for photos with either their own animals or homeless dogs and cats from HCPHES (the Harris County animal shelter). Photos are taken by famed Houston photographer Evin Thayer (who donates all time and materials) and Active Imagination designs a stunning calendar. These wonderful and informative 14 month calendars are only $15.00 and available through local Petco Stores, www.savinganimals.org, The Shed at Minute Maid Park, and www.astros.com/petcalendar.
Helga Schimkat, Spay New Mexico Program Manager.
"We can solve the dog and cat overpopulation problem," Helga Schimkat, Spay New Mexico Program Manager, says emphatically. For the first time in its history, the State of New Mexico appropriated $400,000 for a state-wide program to provide free sterilization of dogs and cats in income-qualified families. The Summerlee Foundation funded a grant for program coordination and management so state funds directly pay costs related to actual surgeries. Saving Animals was tapped to develop and implement the year-long program. The result is the creation of Spay New Mexico, utilizing existing veterinary clinics and mobile spay and neuter clinics, to provide free services across the state.
The Northwest Mall Adoption Center is a great way to help homeless dogs and cats. Here, volunteers can assist by walking and feeding dogs and keeping the cats clean; everyone needs plenty of playtime and socialization. Some volunteers help with retail sales and completing adoption paperwork.

Meet Adoption Center Manager Dennis Doughty.
Saving Animals is very pleased that Dennis Doughty has joined our team as the new manager of the Northwest Mall Adoption Center.

Dennis arrived at Saving Animals following a lengthy career as a top-notch professional photographer. Eventually, he put down his camera, sort of, to follow his love of animals.
Saving Animals' programs reduce the number of homeless dogs and cats ? many would otherwise die in shelters as surplus or on the street under the wheels of a car. You can help prevent homeless animals by bidding on fabulous and unique items found in the Saving Animals online auction.
On-line Auction Begins October 1st.
